I founded Dar a Luz Birth & Health Center in 2007 and spent the next 4 years developing a center that would give Albuquerque families a safe and evidence-based space to give birth outside of the hospital.To date, we have celebrated 1,749 babies born at the birth center and have cared for upwards of another 1,000 moms and babies who risked out and had to birth at the hospital. We have spent nearly 15 years "holding space for the miracle of natural birth".


As many of you know, we have been faced with so many financial difficulties and sadly are ceasing birth services on December 15th. It's a harsh reality of small healthcare practices. But we are not closing and leaving this community. We are pivoting and transitioning our care to broader women's health services from teens to post-menopause. We are still going to give women the best care in this community and we are still and will always be a non-profit organization. No shareholders, no CEOs, just a group of women caring for other women. Welcome to the era of Dar a Luz Health Center!
